Godfrey Hirst Carpets

Godfrey Hirst Carpets has been manufacturing carpets in New Zealand since 1986 and is a privately owned New Zealand company.

We are a "fleece to floor" manufacturer - spinning, dying, designing and manufacturing all styles of carpet in-house. This enables us to closely monitor quality throughout the complete manufacturing process to give you the performance you'd expect from a quality carpet for many years.

We believe it is because of this commitment to quality and value that we sell more carpet in New Zealand than any other manufacturer.

Godfrey Hirst Carpets are also exported to countries all over the world including USA, UK, Russia, India, Japan and Africa - so the whole world can enjoy the feel of Godfrey Hirst carpets under their feet.

Why Choose certain types of carpet?

Wool is still regarded by some to be the best fibre for the simple reason that in most cases it will look better for longer than equivalent carpets made out of other fibres. Its natural resilience means it recovers quickly from compression.

Carpet Ratings

Carpet is an investment for your home so you want to be aware of the performance you can expect. One way of doing this is by checking the rating.

This is usually indicated on the label on the back of the carpet sample. This rating is based on standard tests set by the International Wool Secretariat and is universally recognised.

Most people find that Residential Heavy Duty including Stairs or Extra Heavy Duty will suit the needs of their lifestyle and home.

Cut Pile Hard Twist

Twist pile carpets are among the most popular styles. Whilst almost all carpet yarns are twisted to some degree, these products derive their name from an additional amount of twist given to the fibres. The extra twisting adds strength to the finished yarn giving it excellent pile recovery.

The pile heights are generally kept relatively low which reduces flattening and keeps shading to a minimum. The range of colours available is excellent making it a designer's dream to work with. Suitable for lounges, halls and stairs.

Textured Loop Pile & Sisal

As the name suggests these carpets are made up of multiple loops. They give a patterned or textured effect. The depth of the texture can be varied by changing the depth of the loops.

There are a large number of patterns and pile heights available with this style of manufacture, making this style carpet increasingly popular in New Zealand.

When more than one colour of yarn is used the design and colour options open up further to give you an even larger colour palette of exciting finishes to use for your home.

Loop Pile

As the name suggests these carpets are made up of rows of continuous loops, a little like knitting. The loop forms a type of mini spring which, once walked upon, springs back into shape. This makes the carpet extremely durable and gives it excellent appearance retention.

Loop & Cut Pile

These carpets are made from a combination of quality loop and cut piles to provide a striking sculptured or structured pattern with a hi-lo definition that enhances the overall appearance of the carpet.
